The Lower Bucks County Addiction Task Force is in the process of planning an event in Bristol Borough.
Jay Kurko, the organizer and founder of the organization, came before Bristol Borough Council Monday event to present preliminary plans for the event, which is a candlelight vigil on New Years Eve.

The vigil would take place at Bristol Wharf or Waterfront Park from about 5:30 p.m. on December 31 until 12:30 a.m. on January 1.
“We would like the people who come out to kind of treat this as a New Year’s resolution,” Kurko said at the meeting.
The event would be one of many drug and alcohol-free gatherings the task force is putting on in the lower end of the county. The eventual goal of the organization is to have a different event going on everyday, Kurko said.

Council did not vote on or grant approval for the event at Monday’s meeting, but all members who spoke seemedย in favor of the idea.
“This is not a Bristol problem, this is an epidemic,” said East Ward Councilman Greg Pezza later in the meeting. The comment was not referencing the actual event, but the problem of addiction as a wider phenom.

Bristol Borough will also be hosting an information seminar on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Borough Hallย focusing on drug and addiction problems. District Attorney Matt Weintraub will be present to talk to concerned residents.
