A bus driver quit on the spot Friday morning, leaving a bus with students on it behind, according to police and the Neshaminy School District.

The strange incident began when the bus driver was stopped by a patrol officer along Central Avenue in Lower Southampton for allegedly running a stop sign. Students were on board the bus at the time and heading to class.

Lower Southampton police Lt. Ted Krimmel said the bus driver got upset after the officer issued a traffic citation and walked off the job.

“[The driver] quit and our officer stayed with the kids,” he said. “They were never alone.”

District spokesperson Chris Stanley said the students were safety taken to school by another driver after the incident.

“At no time were the kids lefts unsupervised,” Stanley told LevittownNow.com.

It was not immediately released whether the bus driver worked directly for Neshaminy or transportation contractor Student Transportation of America, who handles less than half of the district’s bus runs.
