One of the options on the table for five of the closed Bristol Township elementary schools is the wrecking ball.
While no school board votes have come up and no formal presentations have been made, Bristol Township School District officials said the Bucks County Redevelopment Authority (RDA) is getting bids on demolition for the John Fitch, Abraham Lincoln, Maple Shade, George Washington and Lafayette schools. Dr. Melanie Gehrens said repurposing the buildings is also being considered.

The district is working with the RDA to sell the schools or find budget-friendly alternatives. Although several parties have shown interest, none of the schools have agreements of sale or are currently leased. A previous plan to lease Lafayette fell through due to the length of the agreement.
The closed Clara Barton Elementary School is likely to become the district’s new administration, operations and transportation center.
Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) upgrades are being considered for the renovations of the Barton building, Gehrens said.

The Bristol Township School District consolidated from nine aging elementary schools to three new, larger buildings recently as part of an effort to modernize the district and save costs.
