$635,000 Frost Hollow Road Bridge Project Begins Monday

Bucks County’s project to perform a “major rehabilitation project” on the Frost Hollow Road Bridge in Middletown’s Levittown section will begin Monday.

According to county officials, the two-lane bridge over the Mill Creek will close starting Monday and remain blocked for about four months. The bridge is owned by Bucks County and maintained by the General Services Division.

During the closure, a $635,000 rehabilitation will take place on the 42-foot-long bridge that was constructed in 1957. The project includes  superstructure replacement, modifications to the abutment seats, repair of substructure elements, stream channel cleaning, approach roadway paving, approach guiderail upgrades, and bridge barrier and new signage.

The new bridge superstructure will be made of composite pre-stressed concrete adjacent box beams and a reinforced concrete deck and sidewalk, officials said.

“The county will initially fund the project out of the county bond fund,” a county spokesperson said. “However, the project is following the PennDOT retro-reimbursement program and as such 80 percent of the project cost of $635,000 will be reimbursed to the county.”

Emergency dispatchers for the county have worked with first responders and the schools to alert them of the closure. In addition, detour signage will be set up in the area.

The bridge detour will direct motorists to take Veterans Highway (Route 413) to New Falls Road to Bristol-Oxford Valley Road.
