A man was arrested in Falls Township after police identified the car he was driving as stolen from Philadelphia.
Shaun Schofield, 36, and the unidentified woman in the passenger seat of the van he was driving first caught the attention of authorities after striking another vehicle in the area of Olive Garden on Lincoln Highway in Middletown last Sunday evening. The crash was spotted by people nearby and they jotted down the registration number of the van, passing it on to police, according to court papers.

Police checked the registration on the couple’s van and noticed that the vehicle was stolen from Philadelphia. Court papers state that by the time officers caught up with the stolen van and Schofield, he had made it all the way toย Heacock Road and Cardinal Drive in Lower Makefield.
Police said they were notified by the witness that the van had made a left onto North Oxford Valley Road and witnesses relayed that the van had stopped at the train tracks because of a passing train.
Officers rushed to the train crossing and caught up to the stolen van.

When police made contact, Schofield was immediately uncooperative and refused to show his hands three times. He also refused to step out and put his hands on the van in a cooperative way, police said.
Officers attempted to detain Schofield, but he resisted and hit an officer with one of the handcuffs, court papers state.
