Worker Hurt In Job Site Accident

A construction worker was taken to the hospital after an accident in Bristol Borough Thursday.

The incident happened at the construction site at the corner of Radcliffe and Mulberry streets shortly before 1 p.m. The incident happened at the same location where a Delaware County man was seriously hurt in 2014 when the 135-year-old fire-damaged building which sat at the location collapsed.

Bristol Fire Chief Herb Slack said firefighters from Bristol Township and the borough responded to the scene removed the injured worker Thursday from a below-grade portion of the job site via a stokes basket. The worker was then packaged and transported to the hospital by the Bucks County Rescue Squad.

The circumstances around what led to the worker becoming injured in the excavated portion of the lot remains under investigation.

The borough shut down the job site for the day and was contacting Occupational Safety and Health Administration to alert them of the work site accident.

Radcliffe Street in the area of the scene was closed for about 20 minutes while the technical rescue operation was underway.

The America Hose, Hook and Ladder No. 2; Bristol Fire Company; Bristol Consolidated Fire Company; Croydon Fire Company; and Edgely Fire Company responded to Thursday’s incident.

In 2014, 60-year-old Meny Moore was seriously hurt in the collapse of the former vacant apartment building at the site. The collapse happened while he was working to convert the building to condos.

The building was torn down in the hours following the collapse and the property was sold with the goal of redevelopment.
