Police have filed charges in connection with a melee that happened last July as the St. Michael’s Fair as it was shutting down.

Quashaad R. James, 21, of Bristol Township’s Levittown section, was charged via summons with two counts of misdemeanor simple assault and summary disorderly conduct and harassment.

James reportedly admitted to Tullytown police that he threw the first punch in the war of words and gestures that led up to several altercations and general madness that occurred as large crowds moved from the church fair to the Levittown Town Center parking lot in front of the Walmart.

The altercations ended when police from as far away as Newtown screamed into the shopping center to break up the disturbances and treat the four who were stabbed with varying degrees of injury. In court papers, officers noted that one person was found with a “large kitchen knife.” The court papers do not list the suspect’s name and no other suspects were charged as of Tuesday.

Police were shutting down the popular church fair across Levittown Parkway from Levittown Town Center before 10:30 p.m. Tullytown police Chief Daniel Doyle said at the time a “near riot” broke out when they went to detain a young person following a night of minor problems.

Doyle told LevittownNow.com Tuesday that the investigation into the incident remains open.
