Perpetual Yard Sale Property Has Been Cleared

The seemingly never-ending yard sale in the front and side yard of 106 Bristol-Oxford Valley Road in Falls Township has finally come to an end.

On Monday morning, the yard was cleaned up and the familiar green Blazer driven by the occupant of the home was not in sight. A car drove up to the house looking for the yard sale, likely not the last to do so. The woman in the car was looking for a cat carrier and to chat with the owner of the property – known by locals as “Butchie” – for a bit. Dismayed at the disappearance of the yard sale, she drove off.

The property, a 5.14 acre space, used to be filled with random items, some which stayed for years and others that cycled in and out. Now, only items near the garage building remain with most of the land cleared with fresh tire tracks marking the mud.

Neighbors said the property has been the site of the ongoing yard sale for 20 to 30 years.

Starting in 1972, George Tidman Jr. and a Katherine V. owned the property. In November, 1984, the two sold the property to John Merriam for $215,000, according to county tax records viewed by LevittownNow.com.

Eight years later, Merriam sold the property to Alan Buchta in 1992 for $10. In turn, he sold the property to another Tidman, Paul, nearly five years later in 1997 for the same price. Paul Tidman was the owner of the property until January 2016 when S&H Investment Group LLC bought the land and structures for $8,500.

According to various business profile outlets, S&H is a two-person investment advisory service operating out of York County. The number which S&H lists online as being a phone number for the company was non-operational.

A legal notice from 2015 appears to show Paul Tidman owing unpaid taxes on the property.

Although the property was apparently sold nearly a year ago, employees at the nearby steak and beer shop said that Butchie was a regular at the store.

Over the years, the recognizable property has been none as a local landmark used to give directions to out-of-towners.

It appears the seemingly perpetual yard sale along Bristol-Oxford Valley Road has finally come to an end.
