Although it might not be recognizable at the moment, the building across the street from the historic King George II Inn on Radcliffe Street in Bristol Borough is going through a transformation that will culminate in the town’s first brewery.

The men behind the new business said the new brewery will focus on out-of-the-box combinations and beers that customers might not have thought of before.

“We’re excited to take a piece of property that has been here for a long time and do something positive with it,” said Tim Shaw, one of the minds behind Odd Logic Brewing.

The property where the brewery is going has been vacant for a number of years. Now, the 8,700-square-foot building will be dedicated to the brewery. In addition to a lounge like space at the entrance, the final plans for the building include a 65-foot-bar with around 30 bar stools and about 30 tables. A small rise will hold tables, unless it’s Thursday, Friday or Saturday night when live music will be performed.

Currently working as a marketing director, Shaw has been working on the branding for the up-and-coming brewery. His partner, John Merrick, is the genius behind the brewing of the actual beer. The duo has been brewing in an amateur capacity for two years together. As they began to get more and more positive feedback on their creations, the two men started entering in festivals. At their most recent festival, the Valley Forge Beer Fest, the duo received word that out of the 70 craft brewers in attendance they were ranked number one.

“We scoured all of Bucks County to find the right location,” Shaw said. The location, which is just off Mill Street, turned out to be exactly what the duo needed and was looking for. Once they found Bristol, their spot seemed to jump at them by default.

“It’s been incredibly positive,” said Shaw regarding community feedback. According to Shaw and Merrick, every time they talk to someone about the brewery, they are met with excitement.

In terms of beer, Odd Logic already has a number of standard recipes ready, including their signature northeastern India Pale Ale (IPA), “Invisible Friends,” and a stout, “Right in the Feels.” These along with mainstays such as pilsners and lagers might make the standard tap list at the brewery, but the crew has made it clear they will continue to tinker with different recipes.

“The opportunity that this will bring for us and the community is incredible,” Shaw said.

According to Shaw and Merrick, if the brewery brings enough traffic to borough to positively impact both the borough and nearby businesses, they will be happy.

“It’s about giving people more options and reasons to come down to the waterfront,” Shaw said.

The guys behind Odd Logic have worked on a five-year plan already. The first major step after completion is the introduction of a roof-top bar and seating with a clear view of the river.

Although there is a lot of work to still do, the duo hopes to finish and be open in June.

The new brewery joined Broken Goblet Brewing and Neshaminy Creek Brewing nearby in Bristol Township.
