The PreventT2 Lifestyle Change Program will be held beginning on January 5 at 6:30 p.m. and continue weekly for the first six months, then once or twice a month for the second six months. The Norton Avenue First Baptist Church at 1150 Norton Avenue in Bristol will host the event, which is free for registered participants. To register call No Longer Bound at 215-788-9511, or email: nlbdiabetespreventionprogram@gmail.com.

The program will help prevent Type 2 diabetes by allowing participants to work in a group with a trained lifestyle coach to learn the skills needed to lose weight, become more physically active, and manage stress. According to a recent press release by the group, which is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), if you have pre-diabetes, you can cut your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes in half by losing 5 to 7 percent of your body weight.

According to PreventT2, You May Have Pre-Diabetes and be at Risk if You:

  • Are 45 years of age or older
  • Are overweight
  • Have a family history of Type 2 diabetes
  • Are physically active fewer than 3 timesย a week
  • Ever had diabetes while pregnant (gestational diabetes) or gave birth to a baby that weighed more than 9 pounds
