Eighth-grade students at Neil A. Armstrong Middle School in Bristol Township enjoyed a special lesson tying together science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) from Philadelphia Flyers legend Bob “The Hound” Kelly.
Kelly, who spent 12 seasons and two consecutive Stanley Cup championships with the Flyers, is now an ambassador for the team and makes public appearances, many working to educate students.

Kelly, staffers from the Flyers and teachers at Armstrong used hockey as the basis for an important lesson on STEM. The assembly climaxed with a video science quiz featuring Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds and other Flyers players engaging with students.

Teachers Kevin Travers and Bill Shire worked to get Kelly and the Flyers to visit Armstrong.
Travers said the NHL team is also providing the middle school with special curriculum that teachers will continue to use to help make science more relatable for students.

Kelly instilled in the excited students that they can pursue anything they want in life if they have a good educational foundation.
This year was the first that the Flyers and Armstrong have worked together to present the program in the township, but Kelly said he presents similar programs at three to four schools in the area every week.
