The William Penn Fire Company in Middletown hosted a fire prevention day on Saturday at its firehouse on Bristol-Oxford Valley Road.
The weather for Saturday’s event was nice with the sun beaming down and lots of people out engaging with first responders.

According to Ray Guy, a lieutenant at the William Penn Fire Company and the organizer of the event, one of the main goals is to get residents out and acquainted with the people who will be serving them in an emergency situation. Besides meeting the responders, kids could practice escaping a smoke trailer and climb in and out of real firetrucks.
“It’s pretty much just trying to teach kids fire safety and get the community to know who their local firefighters are,” Guy said. “We try to teach anyone from 4 to 90 what they can do in an emergency.”
The most important thing for residents to do is to make sure they have a working smoke detector. If they don’t they can get in contact with their local fire department or fire marshal’s office for help.
