Students and staff at Harry S. Truman High School have a new roof over their head … literally.

The district has spent about $4 million over the past two summers to put a new roof on the Bristol Township high school on Green Lane.

Operations Manager Bob Maloney said a small portion of the roof will have to be finished next year but the majority of the 220,000-square-foot roof has been replaced or repaired.

Two different contractors completed the work over the past two summer in an effort to get the most reasonable price for the cash-strapped district.

There were some problems early this school year when the work was underway and a series of rooftop drains overflowed leaked into the building, Maloney said, adding the problem was quickly fixed.

Problems with the high school’s roof came into focus in 2014 after LevittownNow.com published photos of a bathroom damaged by the leaky roof. The roof became a frequent topic at board meetings.
