The mayor of Hulmeville’s home was heavily damaged by flames early Thursday morning.
The fire was reported around 4 a.m. in the unit block of McCarthy Avenue as an investigation but quickly upgraded to an active fire call after multiple neighbors contacted 9-1-1. Upon arrival, the garage of the home was fully engulfed and had collapsed with flames spreading to the top floors of the home, according to William Penn Fire Company Deputy Chief Jim Bampfield.

Firefighters fought the flames that were in part fueled by a 250 pound propane tank that was used to power a generator, Bampfield said.
By the time the flames were knocked down, the fire had left the home with heavy smoke and fire damage throughout.
Mayor Dave Harris told LevittownNow.com he and his wife escaped unharmed with their dog.

“We got out and the firemen did a great job,” Harris said.
Bampfield said a few firefighters suffered very minor injuries at the scene.

Harris, who has been firefighter in Hulmeville for 60 years, thanked all the community members who stopped by following the fire.
“You never think it is going to be you,” Harris said. “We have insurance and hopefully everything works out,” the mayor said.
The Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze.

The Langhorne-Middletown, Parkland, Penndel, Newport, Newportville and Nottingham fire companies assisted William Penn Fire Company at the scene. The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad also responded.
