A Bristol Borough School Board member is resigning before his term is over.
Board member Ralph DiGuiseppe III, the son of the council president, announced in a letter read Thursday evening by board member Joseph Caro that he will be stepping down immediately.

DiGuiseppe stated in his letter that a heavy workload was behind his resignation. He explained that he has missed so many board meetings and school events over the past two years since his company had a merger and he took on a management position.
“I want to apologize to the residents and students of Bristol Borough because I have had very little time available to serve in my position as school director,” DiGuiseppe’s letter read.
DiGuiseppe, who has been elected to the school board twice and has served seven years, said the community can “better benefit from someone who can be more involved on a regular basis.”

State law requires the board to advertise the vacant position and fill it within 30 days. Solicitor Lou Hornstine told the board he would look into the process to replace DiGuiseppe and report back to the board.
Board President Kelly Cochran said she understood DiGuiseppe’s decision to resign due to his increasing commitments.

“I think he is doing right by us,” Caro said.
DiGuiseppe’s letter read Thursday evening was an informal letter and a formal letter to officially announce his resignation will be submitted in short order, officials said.
