A U.S. Postal Service mail carrier jumped to action after a crash caused the engine compartment of a pickup truck to catch fire Thursday afternoon.
After a two-vehicle collision at Bristol-Oxford Valley Road and Cobalt Ridge Drive South in Middletown’s Levittown section, a red pickup truck damaged in the crash had heavy smoke coming from its engine compartment around 3:45 p.m. Under the hood, flames grew and the mailman used a small fire extinguisher to try to hold down the blaze until firefighters arrived, according to neighbors and footage from independent videographer Ron Roberts.
Firefighters from the William Penn and Fairless Hills fire companies arrived shortly after being dispatched and knocked the flames down.

There were no serious injuries to the occupants of the pickup truck and the minivan involved in the crash.
