A Bristol man is accused of raping and sexually assaulting a child over the course of several years.

Ronald Smith, 56, of Bristol, was charged by Bristol Borough police in June with 17 charges, including involuntary devient sexual intercourse with a minor, rape of a child and indecent assault of a person under age 13.

Smith, according to court papers, began sexually assaulting the girl from the age of six. The abuse lasted for seven years. The alleged crimes happened at a motel in Bensalem, two homes in Bristol and the Silver Lake Nature Center, also in Bristol.

While Smith was arrested and arraigned in June, all charges against him were forwarded to county court for an expected trial during a preliminary hearing before District Judge Frank Peranteau Sr. last week.

Smith remains in Bucks County prison on 10 percent of $1.5 million bail.
