Bristol Township police are looking for help from the public to solve the case of a man shot dead on his birthday.
According to police, officers were called via 9-1-1 to the 5600 block of Truman Street at 12:46 a.m. Wednesday. They arrived to find Herbert Lyals, 38, deceased on the sidewalk outside of the home that belongs to his family members. He was reported to be shot once.
Howard McDuffy, a longtime friend of Lyals, confirmed he talked to his friend shortly before the shooting to wish him a happy birthday.

“He’s the godfather to my daughter,” he said. “I talked to him right before.”

Neighbors and friends of Lyals said he reported being robbed shortly before the fatal shooting. The stories between several people LevittownNow.com interviewed varied between Lyals being robbed of money or drugs. A police press release did not mention the robbery.

As of 2 p.m., no arrests in the murder were reported.
Bucks County Detectives are assisting Bristol Township investigators.

A homicide in Bristol Township is under investigation.

According to sources, a man in his late 30s was killed early Wednesday morning at a family member’s home in the 5600 block of Truman Street.
The man, whose birthday was Wednesday, was robbed in the hours before the homicide, neighbors and friends said.

No suspects were in custody as of 11:30 a.m.
