Black Bear Captured After Spending Day In Bristol Twp.

A black bear was captured and removed after spending Saturday in Bristol Township.

Police began receiving calls that a black bear was hanging around the Venice Ashby section at 12:30 p.m. Within minutes, the bear was located and officers contacted the Pennsylvania Game Commission to send their officials to try to capture the bear.

The bear was eventually captured off Green Lane in the area of the train tracks near the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Lt. John Godzieba said.

It took three tranquilizer darts to subdue the bear, which is believed to be several years old and may have made stops to the area a few years ago, Godzieba said.

The bear was taken from Bristol Township by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and will likely be released to a less populated area in the state.

Witnesses told LevittownNow.com the bear was spotted at various places near the Bloomsdale-Fleetwing section before being captured.

Godzieba said one person was taken into custody at the scene for interfering with police tracking the bear. The man, who will be formally arraigned Saturday evening, was found to have drugs on him.

The bear comes weeks after other bear sightings in Bensalem and one earlier this week in Philadelphia.
