NEARBY: Another Bear Might Be In The Area

In what has become a near annual tradition in Lower Bucks County, a black bear has reportedly been spotted.

Bensalem police Lt. William McVey confirmed Sunday afternoon that the department has received tips from residents but has not confirmed the presence of a bear. In addition, several readers have contacted LevittownNow.com reporting sightings of a single black bear between the Neshaminy Creek and Cornwells Heights Regional Rail Station.

At least two photos floating around social media appear to show a black bear in the area. However, their authenticity was not able to be confirmed as of press time.


During a previous bear visit, Pennsylvania Game Commission supervisor Cheryl Trewella said it’s not unnatural that a black bear would make it the Lower Bucks County area, but it is not likely a bear would stay long term due to the hustle and bustle of the area.

In 2013, a roughly 400 pound bear visited the Bensalem and Middletown areas. The bear is believed to have crossed the Delaware River before being captured in New Jersey.

The next year, a baby bear made a stop in Bensalem before put down due to injuries.
