Bristol Township police said Wednesday that they don’t believe a rumored threat against Conwell-Egan Catholic High School had much merit.
Lt. Terry Hughes said the rumored threat stemmed from a comment made several weeks ago and a comment made this week by a student. Investigators and school officials looked into the threat and determined it had been exaggerated as it went through the rumor mill.

Classes went on without a hitch Wednesday morning and police stepped up patrols of the high school on Wister Road.
“There has been no specific threat made against the safety of Conwell-Egan Catholic High school or any member of the school community. A rumor surfaced recently regarding the potential for a threat. The school takes any rumor of this nature seriously,” Archdiocese of Philadelphia spokesman Kenneth Gavin told LevittownNow.com.
The high school sent a letter home via email to parents Tuesday evening to alert them to a “rumor of a threat.”

The letter said the precautions taken by the high school were “out of an abundance of caution.”
