The Burger King site at the corner of Hood Boulevard and New Falls Road could soon be getting a makeover.
Representatives from both Family Dining Inc. and Bohler Engineering gave a presentation to the Falls Township Zoning Hearing Board on Tuesday night seeking variances for the property before a full demolition can begin.

Family Dining Inc., in addition to owning this site and many others, also owns the newly renovated Burger King at Veterans Highway and New Falls Road and the one across from Sesame Place near the Oxford Valley Mall, which also has been recently renovated.
According to a presentation by Bohler Engineering, plans for the property include a full demolition of the existing, 30-year-old Burger King site, and a complete reworking of the property to include a brand new, drive-thru, contemporary style Burger King, similar in design to the one at New Falls and Veterans, and a separate 1,800 square foot cafe space also with a drive-thru.

While representatives noted that a business had not been acquired yet for the cafe project, the site would be marketed towards companies like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. If one of those cafe style businesses could not be acquired, the site could be used as a bank, according to representatives.

Variances, which include adding two drive-thrus on one property, a smaller buffer than required, encroachment into the right-of-way, allowing outdoor dining for the cafe, and not constructing a off-street loading zone, were all approved by the township zoning hearing board.
The approval is the first step in a long process before the site will be rehabbed and looking like new for area residents. Representatives will soon visit the planning commission for the township to discuss options like storm water management before getting final approval from the township’s board of supervisors.
