A downed tree limb caused a large power outage and a road closure Wednesday afternoon.

PECO officials said 1,700 customers throughout parts of Middletown, Penndel, Hulmeville and Langhorne lost power when a tree limb damaged utility lines near the intersection of Durham and Trenton roads.

Within two hours, only 285 customers remained without service. Service to all remaining customers was restored by 4:30 p.m., according to Greg Smore, a PECO spokesperson.

Smore said crews arrived to the scene shortly after 12:30 p.m. and were quickly able to begin making repairs.

Fire police blocked the road for several hours while PECO crews worked to restore power. Durham Road was closed between Trenton Road and Gables Court.
