A 21-year-old man from Northampton is accused of trying to make it difficult for Middletown police to arrest him on DUI charges.
Anthony King was pulled over Tuesday at 2:38 a.m. at the corner of East Lincoln Highway and Veterans Highway (Route 413.) He was stopped for driving erratically and with his high beams on.

When an officer made contact with King, he noted the 21 year old had “extremely slurred speech, glassy eyes and appeared extremely lethargic,” according to court papers.
King, who had a passenger in the car, had to call his mother after he could not find the vehicle’s paperwork. While working to call his mother, he began to fall asleep before she picked up, the arresting officer noted.
Following the call, the officer said King was making noises and did not appear to be making sense.

King exited the vehicle at the request of police and had trouble keeping his balance, police said.
As two officer tried to take King into custody, he began to back away and make it difficult for officers. He kept resisting arrest and began calling for his friend, police said.
