Even thought he has been appointed to a top civilian job in the Pentagon, Bristol Township’s Patrick Murphy won’t be moving.

The 42-year-old former Democratic congressman was confirmed by the Senate last week to become under secretary of the Army. The position will give Murphy, an Army veteran and attorney, oversight of business aspects of the military branch.

Murphy made headlines when he was elected to serve Pennsylvania’s Eighth District in congress in 2007. He was the first Iraq War veteran to be elected to congress. During his terms, which ended in 2011, he worked to repeal the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy in the armed forces.

Murphy told LevittownNow.com he has “24 years left on our mortgage and lots of home improvement projects here in Bristol. Bucks County is our home.”
