Neshaminy High School senior Kieran Ricciardi was looking for a unique project. As a leader in the NHS Interact community service club, she was hoping to find something that would not only help others, but would bring her fellow Interact Club members together to work on creating something.

She found her answer in blankets.

On December 3, club members filled two Family & Consumer Science classrooms at NHS with hundreds of yards of felt to create dozens of double-layered fleece blankets cut from brightly-colored printed fabric bearing cheerful, offbeat designs. The finished blankets will be donated to the Covenant House in Philadelphia, which provides services and shelter for homeless and at-risk teenagers.

The goal, according to Kieran, was not only to provide something useful and fun for the clients of Covenant House, but to also draw attention to the plight of these teenagers, who mostly come from situations of neglect, abuse or are victims of sex traffickers.

The Langhorne and Feasterville Rotary Clubs, which sponsor the Interact Club, donated $100 worth of fabric to create extra blankets. Some shoppers at Joann Fabrics, where the fabric was purchased, donated some more fabric when they heard about the project. Club members used money from past fundraisers to purchase the remainder of the fabric.
