Kelly O’Brien was sentenced after pleading guilty to DUI, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and disorderly conduct. A wild car chase left one woman injured and initiated a violent attack inside a local hospital’s emergency room, according to court papers.
Kelly O’Brien, 21, of Groveville, New Jersey, was arrested and charged with DUI, aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, and other related charges. She was arraigned and released on $50,000 unsecured.

Middletown officers noted they first observed O’Brien as she drove at a high-rate of speed through the intersection of Maple Avenue (Route 213) and South Flowers Mill Road around midnighton December 3. Immediately after, O’Brien, who was driving a black Ford focus, sped past the officer as he activated his overhead emergency lights, court documents state.
The officer noted while he was on a pursuit of the vehicle, he noted skid marks on the road by the entrance to Woods Services, as if the driver had lost control of the vehicle at the curve. The officer noted in court documents that despite traveling at 68 MPH, the vehicle driven by O’Brien continued to accelerate well beyond him, at which point, he called off his pursuit.

A probable cause affidavit showed that about a minute later, the officer noticed a cloud of dust and smoke around the black vehicle, stating O’Brien had lost control and had crashed into large landscaping rocks and a utility pole. It was then that O’Brien exited the vehicle and began walking away from the crash scene, despite the officer identifying himself and asking her to stop.

Court documents state that O’Brien then took off, running from the officer, down a residential driveway and in-between houses until she came to the roadway, at which time the officer lost sight of her.
Numerous officers from the township department assisted in looking for O’Brien, with concerns she had sustained injuries in the accident. A responding officer later identified a woman attempting to hitch a ride by the Langhorne Hotel in Langhorne Borough as O’Brien.

O’Brien was transported to St. Mary Medical Center, where she submitted to chemical testing, and was later admitted for an ankle injury. O’Brien also took part in a field sobriety test.
A probable cause affidavit noted that shortly before 3 a.m., St. Mary Medical Center emergency room staff requested police response, reporting that O’Brien was out of control and attacking staff members. O’Brien had to be physically restrained and sedated after she reportedly swung at a staff member with a closed fist, and tried to bite another staff member on the breast and arm.

O’Brien awaits a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 7.
