Veterans from all branches of the military were honored last week during a special ceremony at Maple Point Middle School in Middletown.
The middle school’s annual Veterans Day ceremony included members of the Warriors’ Watch Riders holding flags, the honor guard and close to 100 veterans. Neshaminy School District residents Joseph Fonde Sr. and his two children – Joseph Jr. and Tina Fonde – all of whom are veterans, spoke to the students.

Joseph Fonde Sr. and his children spoke of their service to the country. While Joseph Fonde Sr. said his tour of duty after Vietnam was “uneventful,” both Joseph Fonde Jr. and Tina Fonde both served in the Middle East. Now, the elder Fonde said he volunteers with local veteran groups to give back.

“To most people we are invisible,” Joseph Fonde Jr. “You will never know that the people in line at Walmart or in the movie theater are veterans. They were you in those seats once listening to veterans.”
Republican State Rep. Frank Farry of Langhorne asked students to take five minutes away from electronic devices to thank those who serve their countries and communities.

Among the veterans at the event, there were five veterans awarded the Purple Heart, seven awarded the Bronze Star and 20 who were awarded military achievement honors, according to Maple Point history teacher Anne Schmidt, the daughter of a veteran.
