Black Widow Spider Found In Grapes Purchased At Local Store

A Morrisville family reported to this week that they found a black widow spider in a bag of grapes purchased in Falls Township.

6abc reporter Walter Perez said Wednesday that a black widow spider was found in Morrisville resident Dr. Amy Reed’s bag of Welch’s Organic Grapes purchase at the BJ’s Wholesale Club on Commerce Boulevard earlier this week.

“The distributor for the grapes, Welch’s Organic Grapes, called the family directly to make sure they were okay and to tell them they’ve had this problem before because they don’t use pesticides on their organic produce,” according to the 6abc story.

“We have inspected all other grapes and discovered no spiders or other insects. We are taking this matter extremely seriously and working with our vendor to take appropriate measures,” a BJ’s statement released to NBC10 said.

A black widow spider found in grapes is concerning because bites from female black widow spiders can be dangerous, but are rarely fatal.
