More than 2,000 customers lost electric service in the Levittown area Wednesday afternoon, according to PECO officials.

The two outages – one in Bristol Township and the other in Penndel – were unrelated, but both happened between 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m.

PECO spokesman Greg Smores said the first outage happened when a tree branch struck power lines in Penndel. After a momentary cut in service that impacted a large amount of customers, only 200 people in Penndel and Hulmeville were left without power for about 45 minutes until repairs could be made.

The second outage happened around 1:15 p.m. in Bristol Township and was caused when a branch struck a cross arm on a utility pole. In that outage, more than 2,000 customers were without power in various parts of the township’s Bristol and Levittown sections. All customers were reported to be back on by 2:45 p.m, Smores said.

The weather is believed to have played a role in the outages.
