As the 39th annual Historic Bristol Borough Day kicked off, the entire borough showed off its best aspects.
Snyder-Girotti Elementary School transformed into a “kids’ corner” and a car show staging ground. Mill Street exploded with activity as excited borough residents and visitors buzzed up and down the street, and Radcliffe Street and the surrounding areas became lined with vendors, filling with bright faces ready to seize the day.

Liz Fisher, the chair person for the Bristol Cultural and Historicalย Foundation, and the top organizer for the event for the past two years said this year’s themeย is diversity.
“I thought it was appropriate because Bristol has always been a town where blacks, whites and Latinos all live, go to school and grow up together,” Fisher explained.
Previous years’ themes included living on the river and the Civil War, where a lost tombstone was returned to Bristol.

One of the main components for the day was entertainment. A number of different music acts performed, including a step team. Artwork, delicious foods and car show were all part of the day’s festivities.
Thousands of people filled the borough’s central business district.

“It brings a lot of people into town. They get to realize that there is a lot to see in Bristol,” Fisher said. “They get to see the cultural aspect and the beauty of the borough. It’s a source of pride to live here and share [Bristol’s] attractions with other people.”
There are no plans as of yet for the 40th Historic Bristol Day, but Fisher and company aren’t worried about missing the mark. “We are bound to do something special,” Fisher said.
Planning starts in January for the October celebration.
