Neshaminy Elementary School Receives $25,000 Grant From State Farm

Albert Schweitzer Elementary School in the Neshaminy School District has received a boost to aid in it’s Recycles and Reuses program.

The elementary school received the service-learning grant from the State Farm Youth Advisory Board. The grant will provide a $25,000 boost to the school’s program.

The school’s Recycles and Reuses program is a youth-led environmental science project that includes everything from placing triple sorting recycle bins in each classroom, to purchasing compost bins for their Garden Club, will recycles cafeteria waste into fresh garden soil. Recycling bins will even be purchased for the athletic bins as well as the adjoining Carl Sandburg Middle School.

Since 2012, the students in the program have discovered methods to help the school and the local community. Through raising funds and completing environmentally friendly projects, the program has helped the local homeless community, the elderly, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and even a local animal shelter.

โ€œThe Service Learning Club is designed to empower students and teach them how to collaboratively solve complex problems in society,โ€ said Club Advisor JoEllen Exner. โ€œThis
projectโ€™s mission will enable the students of Albert Schweitzer Elementary to understand that through their group effort, they can make a positive difference in the lives of others and their community.โ€

According to a recent, news release, the State Farm Youth Advisory Board has granted more than $36 million to empower youth in service learning environments since 2006.
