Pieces of a now-closed Bristol Township church will be part of Pope Francis’ mass along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia.
The wooden crucifix that will hang behind the pontiff during his mass on Sunday is constructed from imitation gold leafing and a corpus that used to be part of the closed Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Emilie Road.

Ohio.com reports award-winning liturgical designer Lawrence Hoy of Connecticut is building the 10-foot-tall and 8-foot-wide crucifix.
The imitation gold from the Bristol Township church was used because of Pope Francis’ vision of austerity, Hoy told News12.com.
Renderings from Philadelphia-based designer ESM Productions show what the crucifix will look like on Sunday.
