For those in strong oppose or support of the proposed hazardous waste treatment facility in Falls Township, you will have another chance to voice your opinion.
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is scheduled to host their next public hearing on the proposed hazardous waste treatment facility on Wednesday, September 30. The hearing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., once again at the Sheraton Bucks County Hotel at 400 Oxford Valley Road in Falls.

Elcon, which has been in front of the DEP and the public on numerous occasions over the past year, has proposed to build a 22-acre facility within the Keystone Industrial Port Complex that will treat liquid waste from the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. A previous proposal by the company was turned down by the EPA.
The hearing will allow for public testimony exclusively on Phase I of the company’s application to the DEP.
“The purpose of the Phase I siting review is solely to determine whether the proposed location complies with Pennsylvania’s exclusionary siting criteria for such operations,” said the DEP Southeast Regional Director Cosmo Servidio. “This happens prior to the company submitting a full operation and design hazardous waste permit application.”

As was the routine in prior public hearings, all public testimony will be recorded and reviewed by the DEP in making a decision on the project.
If the plan moves forward, Phase II will look at the site and concerns about the plan.

Written testimony will also be accepted by the DEP from September 30 through October 14.

A copy of Elcon’s Phase I application has been made available fro review at the Levittown branch of the Bucks County Free Library. The library is located at 7311 New Falls Road in Levittown.
