A Philadelphia artist and comic book enthusiast has organized a unique art gallery experience in celebration of Batman. The best part? It will take place inside a Levittown comic store.
The Arsenal of Artists event, in honor of National Batman Day, and the 75th anniversary of the comic series, will curate 52 artists together in a gallery like environment all paying homage to the comic legend. The event will take place Saturday, September 26 from noon until 8 p.m. at Steve’s Comic Relief at 930 Woodbourne Road in Levittown. The store is also known as Bucks County’s longest running comics and gaming store.

Alex Rivera, also known as “The Playful Gorilla,” has been a resident artist at the comic store and has helped curate two other ‘Arsenal of Artists’ events before this one.
“Steve’s has been in the comic book business for almost 30 years and as of a few months ago opened the doors to the Levittown location,” Rivera told LevittownNow.com. “He has a great mantra and vision – to empower today’s kids to read more through the magic of comic books. Being a father myself and an avid reader of comic books, this resonated with me.”
According to Rivera, the Arsenal of Artists event is unique in that it joins established artists alongside up and comers, and sets the experience all inside the comic store. ” If I’m not mistaken – this has never happened in the area,” he said.

In conjunction with the gallery, the event will also host a cosplay contest with a $150 prize, door prizes for the first 10 customers, a large selection of items to be raffled off each hour, and even Philly soft pretzels shaped as the bat symbol.
Rivera also noted that the Dark Knight of PA, a local Batman cosplayer, will be making an appearance alongside a Polaris SlingShot for photo ops.
