Falls Township became the first municipality in the state last night to pass a resolution in support of American manufacturing.

According to officials from the Alliance for American Manufacturing, the resolution has begun at a “grassroots” level before legislation is sought at the federal level. The proposed legislation asks for products used in the country’s national defense agenda be made here in the United States, and that veterans have first option at careers in those manufacturing facilities.

“America’s growing and dangerous reliance on foreign nations for the products needed to defend the American people puts us at serious risk,” the organization published on their website.

According to the organization’s cause, the country has shifted from a prideful one where products were made at a home to a land where not a single high-tech magnet โ€” crucial to military hardware โ€” is made in America.

“Roughly 91 percent of the rare earth element needed for night-vision goggles is from China. The United States produces just 2 percent of Lithium ion batteries, used in everything from unmanned aerial drones to bomb disposal robots and other gear,” the website notes.

Supervisor Jeffrey Rocco called passing the resolution a “no-brainer,” and Chairman Bob Harvie said he was proud that Falls Townshipย was first to sign.

“I’m honored, and I think Falls Township should be honored to start this off in Pennsylvania.”

” Guns, planes, ships and many other things have to be built in the factories and the arsenals of America. They have to be produced by workers and managers and engineers with the aid of machines which in turn have to be built by hundreds of thousands of workers throughout the land. “
