A Levittown man will go to prison for running down a Morrisville police officer on Valentine’s Day.
Matthew B. Shipe, 26, was sentenced to 5 1/2 to 13 years in a state correction facility Wednesday. He will also receive two years of probation, according to the Doylestown Intelligencer.

In court, Shipe apologized for injuring the officer who shot him in self-defense and blamed the incident on a heroin addiction, the newspaper reported.
Shipe was shot by Morrisville Borough Police Department Cpl. Michael Pitcher after he allegedly tried to run him down in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at Pennsylvania Avenue and Bridge Street.
The 26 year old backed the silver car he was driving, which was reported stolen out of Bristol Township, into Pitcher during a traffic stop outside the 7-Eleven. The officer fired his service weapon twice and hit Shipe once, according to court papers.

The corporal also said in district court that he was clinging to the hood of the car before being knocked off.
Despite being shot in the chest, Shipe drove off. He ended up crashing the silver car into a wooded area near Snipes Farm and Route 1 after he struck the center barrier.

Pitcher was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and Shipe was taken to the hospital to be treated for gunshot wound.
