Several Philadelphia media outlets report a Bristol woman has been charged with animal abandonment after she let her newly adopted dog go in Morrisville.

The dog – Spunky Bewster – was let go by the Bristol woman only a short time after she adopted it from a Philadelphia shelter, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.

After being found by Lower Makefield police earlier this month, the dog was taken to the Bucks County SPCA in Lahaska and euthanized because it was labeled at “high risk for adoption,” the newspaper reported.

Before putting Spunky Brewster down, the Bucks County SPCA called the owner listed on the microchip. The woman allegedly lied and said she had the dog for two yearsย and gave it away, according to Fox 29.
