The first day of school is special for students, and two local nonprofits want to make sure it stays that way for Bucks County kids who may not be able to afford school supplies.
The Fairless Hills-based United Way of Bucks County and Ivyland-based Bucks County Housing Group are gearing up to collect donations of new school supplies on Tuesday, August 18 and Wednesday, August 19. The collected supplies will then go out and be given to needy students throughout the county. The collection drive is aptly titled “Stuff the Bus.”

“New supplies can boost a child’s confidence if they are struggling. Believe it or not, just having the right supplies can provide the self-assurance they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond,” Danielle Bush of the United Way of Bucks County said.
Last year alone, Bucks County residents and businesses donated enough supplies to fill 1,000 backpacks for students. According to UWBucks.org, the nonprofit hopes to stuff at least 1,251 backpacks this year.
โBackpacks filled with supplies allow these children to begin the school year on equal footing with their classmates,” said Erik Clare, Director of Development for the Bucks County Housing Group.ย “This partnership makes it easier for people to donate, and allows us to distribute these backpacks to those most in need in Bucks County.โ
