Bristol Township resident Patrick Murphy has been nominated to becomeย under secretary of the Army by President Barack Obama.
The announcement came Wednesday afternoon in a press release from the White House. Murphy, a former local congressman and Iraq War veteran, has remained involved in military causes during his time in office and following it.

Murphy is currently a partner in the Philadelphia-based law firm of Fox Rothschild LLP, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and host on news-talk cable channel MSNBC.
“Murphy served in the Army and Army Reserve for eight years prior to his political career. From 2003 to 2004, he deployed to Iraq as a paratrooper with the Armyโs 82nd Airborne Division, where he earned the Bronze Star. ย He also deployed to Bosnia in 2002,” according to an Army Times story.
The under secretary position is the second-highest ranking civilian position in the Army.
