According to Falls Township officials, there’s a delay occurring with getting sidewalks on New Falls Road.

The Board of Supervisors, which approved the project and set it out to bid back in February, have rejected the lone proposal they received. The project, which was estimated to cost around $200,000 by the township engineer, came back at the tune of $306,746. Officials noted it was the only bid they received for the project.

Currently the area market is flooded with projects similar like the New Falls Road venture, causing many local contractors to be too busy to take on the job. Falls officials announced Tuesday they have rejected the lone proposal and will put the project back out to bid this November.

As long as bids are well accepted, residents can expect construction in the area to begin March 2016 and take approximately 2-3 months to complete.

The projectย will fill in the gaps of existing sidewalks along New Falls Road and stretch on one side from Hood Boulevard to the Vermillion Hills section of the township.ย It is the boardโ€™s hope that the sidewalks will help connect the Thornridge and Vermillion Hills communities to local shops and eateries and provide danger-free walking, providing a safe alternative to walking along or in the middle of the road.

โ€œNone of us really want to wait until something happens and then wish we would have put sidewalks in when we all talked about it,โ€ said Chariman Bob Harvie back in mid-February.

In total, at least three pedestrians have been hit on the road in the last decade, many more have been injured, none however, have occurred in Falls Township.
