Bristol Township officials are very eager to get business booming again at the corner of Mill Creek Parkway and Edgely Road.

The township’s council approved final land development for the now vacant Bottom Dollar store on Wednesday night, which after minor changes will open as an Aldi discount grocer.

According to the architectural consulting firm working on the project, an addition of 1,200 square feet will be added to the existing building so that Aldi can properly stock all of it’s items within the location. The addition, which was approved on Wednesday, will not encroach on wetlands and will not cause the cutting down of any more trees to develop the site, noted Vice President Amber Longhitano.

The site, although one of 66 bought by Aldi, is one of only 24 across Pennsylvania and New Jersey that will see the transition from a vacant Bottom Dollar to an up and running Aldi.

The site, which officially closed in January, has sat empty at the busy Levittown corner ever since the $15 million takeover closed earlier this year.

According to Township Manager Bill McCauley, not only will this bring business back, but Aldi has agreed to finish the project of installing ADA and handicap accessible walkways at all four corners of the intersection, something Bottom Dollar never did.

“We want to get this store open and get the jobs back in there and move on with this thing,” said McCauley. “We’re going to be business friendly to get Aldi open as soon as possible.”

According to those working on the site, the store should be open before the start to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Aldi, which currently operates a store in Middletown Township, is in the middle of an “accelerated growth plan,” to open more than 650 new stores by 2018.
