Blood left at the scene of the crime rarely, if ever, works in the favor of the person suspected of committing the offense. That fact was proven again recently in Middletown.

Burglary suspect Devon Taylor, 33, is believed by police to have cut himself on broken glass while entering or leaving the residence a Russell Avenue on January 8. Police said they found a blood smeared on the kitchen wall, which investigators swabbed and executed a DNA test on.

After officers met with Taylor and swabbed his mouth to receive a proper comparison of DNA, results confirmed Taylor’s DNA matched that of the of the sample recovered from the Russell Avenue burglary scene, according to court papers.

Police said the Russell Avenue home was ransacked in the burglary and more than $2,500 in jewelry, electronics, money and prescription pain relief medicine were taken.

Taylor was charged this week with felony charges of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft, receiving stolen property and a misdemeanor count of of criminal mischief. Taylor’s bail is set at $30,000 and his preliminary hearing is set for July 22, at 2:00 p.m. at Judge Daniel Baranoski’s court.
