The Bristol Township School Board has appointed Dr. Melanie Gehrens to fill the position of interim superintendent.
Gehrens, currently the supervisor of secondary curriculum and instruction, will work on a monthly basis until the board votes to hire a full-time superintendent to replace outgoing Superintendent Dr. Sam Lee, who is leaving to lead the Bensalem School District.

Gehrens has worked in the district for six years and previously worked in the Morrisville School District.
Gehrens said she was excited for the opportunity given to her by the board. She added she plans to apply for the permanent position when applications are being accepted.
Business manager John Steffy said Gehrens will earn a monthly stipend of $1,200 in addition to her current yearly salary of approximately $132,000.

“Thank you for a wonderful opportunity to serve a wonderful community,” Lee said while fighting back tears. “It’s a five years I’ll never forget.”
