The more than 65,000 American flags that dot the field at Falls Township Community Park do not get there by themselves – an army of volunteers are needed to put the breathtaking display of patriotism together.

This year, organizers are looking for volunteers to help plant the flags on Friday, June 12, starting at 9 a.m. If you are interested in assisting with placing the flags, contact the Falls Township Parks and Recreation Department at 215-949-9000 ext. 221, or loessyb@fallstwp.org.

Organizers said last year that the large display features 60,000 flags in a line as long as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. Another 5,000 flags were used to make a star design.

The  Delaware Valley Vietnam Veterans’ 30th Annual Donald W. Jones Flag Memorial will open to the public Saturday and end Sunday with a motorcycle rally and and repatriation ceremony that starts at 1 p.m.

The event has been hosted at the Falls Township park for about a dozen years and previously was held at the Silver Lake Nature Center in Bristol Township.
