Penndel Borough has signed with new energy providers after a presentation from New America Power.
Steve Esposito of New America Power made a presentation to the council’s board last month, supplying them with quote comparisons of approved Pennsylvania electricity and gas suppliers. The savings, and average of 7% for electricity and 12% for gas, will be applicable for all Borough owned properties.

Rates from eight electricity providers were compared against the Borough’s current rate at terms of 18, 24 and 36 months each.ย For natural gas, six providers with the lowest submitted rates were compared, including the Boroughโs current rate, at terms of 12, 18 and 24 months.
โThereโs no upfront fee; thereโs no charge directly. Weโre paid from the supplier based on volumes and by rate, so any charges are already billed in,โ Esposito said. The Borough, regardless of supplier, will continue to be billed by PECO with no change to their current billing structure, according to Esposito.
Borough Council Member Gianpiero Lo Piccolo, who serves as the chairman for the Finance Committee, motioned to sign Hudson Electricity at a rate of 0.06611 for 36 months and USGE at a rate of 0.5624 for 24 months, based on Espositoโs recommendations.ย Both motions,ย were passed unanimously by the board.

The effort to save the borough money in the two areas was first investigated by Lo Piccolo in April 2015, after he learned of an agreement between New America Energy and Newtown Township, according to borough officials.
