Cops: Man Charges At Officer With Needle

An Allentown man is accused of charging at a police officer with a needle.

William John Szydlik, 32, is accused of charging at a Middletown police officer in the bathroom of the Oxford Valley Mall Monday afternoon.

Police said they were dispatched to the mall bathroom for a possibly unresponsive man inside a bathroom stall.

Upon arrival, the officer reportedly found Szydlik alert and talkative inside the stall.

An officer removed a blue bag that was half out of the stall and Szydlik became “enraged. The 32 year old swung open the door and charged at the officer with a hypodermic needle in his right hand, police said.

After a struggle, Szydlik was taken into custody, according to authorities.

Court papers detail that numerous pink and clear bags with white residue were found in the bag along with another needle.

Szydlik was charged with two drug-related counts and resisting arrest. He was arraigned by District Judge John Kelly Jr. and sent to prison on 10 percent of $30,000 bail.
