Bristol Township patrol officers have joined their colleagues around Bucks County in carrying the lifesaving anti-opioid overdose antidote Naloxone, more commonly known as Narcan.

Acting Chief of Police Sgt. Ralph Johnson recently showed LevittownNow.com how the auto injector used by Bristol Township officers differs from those used by other departments throughout the county.
Bristol Township’s Naloxone HCL Auto Injectors, which were purchased through a grant, instruct officers how to use the device on the victim of an overdose. Many surrounding towns use nasal atomisers to administer Narcan.
Johnson said Bristol Township leads the county in heroin overdoses. He added the Narcan injector is a new tool for his officers to hopefully save lives.

Patrol officers in Bristol Township began carrying the new Narcan injectors in early May.
Just last week, Penndel and Middletown police used Narcan to save the life of a man during an overdose at the Langhorne train station.

“It’s clear – heroin kills and Narcan saves,” Bucks County’s Chief of Prosecution Matt Weintraub told reporters earlier this year.
