Here’s How The Philly Derailment Has Impacted Levittown-Area Travel

When tragedy struck the Amtrak train lines surrounding the Port Richmond section of Northeast Philadelphia – many commuters feared for not only their safety, but their travel to and from the city from the outlying suburbs.

According to Kristin Geiger, the public information manager for SEPTA, Tuesday nightโ€™s tragedy has severely impacted the 12,000 weekday riders who normally travel along SEPTAโ€™s Trenton Regional Rail Line. The makes stops in Croydon, Bristol and Levittown.

The line, which is currently suspended until further notice, will likely be out of commission for the remainder of the service week, due to the Amtrak train derailment. Decisions regarding next week will likely be made by officials at SEPTA in the coming days.

As part of an alternative plan, SEPTA has issued alternates for those who need to travel to and from the City of Philadelphia. Details regarding extra trains, additional parking, and shuttle service for the West Trenton Line and the Frankford Transportation Center have been provided, courtesy of SEPTA.

For those traveling from the Levittown-Tullytown Station or the Bristol Station to Center City

A free SEPTA shuttle has been provided from the Cornwells Heights Station to the Frankford Transportation Center, a transfer can then be made to the Market Frankford Line, but a fee does apply. The shuttle operates from 6 to 10 a.m. Commuters can also use the Woodbourne or Langhorne Stations on the West Trenton Line as their access into the city.

For those traveling from Center City to the Levittown-Tullytown Station or the Bristol Station

A fare applies, but commuters may take the Market Frankford Line to the Frankford Transportation Center, then transfer to the free SEPTA shuttle from the Frankford Transportation Center to the Cornwells Heights Station. The free shuttle operates from 3 to 7 p.m.. Commuters will also be able to use the West Trenton Line from their chosen Center City station to either the Woodbourne or Langhorne stations.

For those traveling from the Croydon station to Center City

Regarding Parking

SEPTA has warned commuters that parking may be at capacity at regional rail parking lots and the Frankford Transportation Center due to the influx of Trenton Line users taking the West Trenton Line and other ways of travel.

For parking at the Frankford Transportation Center, commuters will have access to 200 additional spaces in a lot on Griscom at Pratt Street. An additional 200 parking spaces will also be accessed at the Neshaminy Mall behind Sears and next to the Pizza UNO restaurant.

The bus route #14 operates every 10 minutes from the mall. A cash fare for travel to Center City will cost customers $3.25, but customers must purchase a transfer.

The free SEPTA Cornwells Heights shuttle is estimated to run every minutes from 6 to 10 a.m. and again from 3 to 7 p.m..

Regarding Tickets

As a convenience, SEPTA will honor joint SEPTA/New Jersey Transit fare on all West Trenton Line trains, and all current Trailpasses for travel from West Trenton Line stations. Amtrak and all other NJT tickets will not be accepted.
