Cops Suspect Levittown Man Was Drunk When He Struck Bicyclist


ybpd2Yardley police plan to charge a Levittown man withย causing a crash that hurt a bicyclist.

Officers from Yardley and Lower Makefield responded to the intersection ofย  Main Street and Afton Avenue in Yardley Borough at 5:34 p.m. Friday and found the injured bicyclist, a Washington Crossing resident.

The driver of the striking vehicle, a 50-year-old Levittown man, hitย ย the bicyclist in the crosswalk while making a turn, according to a police press release.

Yardley officers “developed probable cause to believe that [the driver]ย was operating under the influence of alcohol and he was arrested for suspicion of DUI,” the press release stated.

The bicyclist suffered an abrasion to his head and possible leg injury, police said. The bicyclist stayed at the hospital overnight.

The driver was released and is expected to be chargedย at a later date.
